Bruce's Bait
Bruce's Bait: The Duncan Fishing Tournament is a browser-based fishing game built entirely with PixiJS v8 and Vite. Every visual, from the animated shoreline to the fisherman himself, is drawn in code with zero external art assets.
Inspired by classic SNES fishing games like Super Black Bass and Legend of the River King, we wanted to recreate that slow-burn, satisfying loop of waiting for the perfect cast, feeling the line tension spike, and landing something rare.
You play as Bruce, a hometown fisherman entering the annual Duncan River Tournament. Over a 12-minute session spanning weather phases and day and night cycle. Only your three biggest and rarest fish count toward your final score.
Core features:
- Press-and-hold cast charging with wind drift — cast further for better fish, but longer fights
- Tension-based reel minigame: keep the fish in the green zone without snapping your line
- 8 bait types and 5 rod tiers that unlock progressively rarer fish
- 5 fish rarity tiers up to Mythic
- Day/night/weather cycle with rain, fog, and ambient animations
- Full fish encyclopedia, bag management, and in-game shop
- Retro pixel font and chiptune-style audio for that authentic SNES feel

Nice. I can reliably pile up cash. Maybe some tweaks to the progression system to keep me hooked, so to speak, and you're golden.
Check out the new update when you can! Big improvements.
